Eucalyptus

(Eucalyptus globulus)
Distinctive, stimulating smell that clears the head, used to treat colds & coughs

Nature's Jewel
Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus) - A traditional oil for a healthy respiratory system, Eucalyptus is an important part of many medicinal preparations, particularly vapor rubs and other cold and chest products. It has a clean, sharp and distinguishable camphor aroma with a sweet undertone. The name Eucalyptus comes from the Greek word eucalyptos meaning "covered or wrapped." In archaic times, it was called the "fever tree." Australian Aborigines crushed the leaves and put them on the skin. Eucalyptus oil was listed in the 1885 edition of the British Pharmacopeia.
Eucalyptus essential oil is highly antiseptic but also very inexpensive, so it's used liberally in aftershaves, colognes, mouthwashes, and household cleansers.  Researches found that the scent provides a real wake-up call, so using these products should help you get through the day.  The essential oil of eucalyptus, or its main component eucalyptol, is used in many drugstore products as a liniment for sore muscles, in vapor rubs for lung and sinus congestion, in skin blemishes / oily complexion lotions and creams, and in shampoo for oily hair.  Many people use either eucalyptus leaves or the essential oil in steam baths and saunas by placing a few drops on the hot rocks so that the scent fills the room.  eucalyptus is also one of the strongest essential oils to fight viral infections like flu, herpes, blisters, chicken pox and helps boost the body's immune system.
Eucalyptus is a supportive choice for dealing with the respiratory system. After heavy work or exercise, the right massage enriched with eucalyptus can help alleviate sore muscles. Eucalyptus may help reduce the intensity of minor headaches. Simply massage your temples with 2-3 drops of eucalyptus diluted in one tablespoon of mixing oil. Opening a bottle of eucalyptus oil and deeply inhaling a few times directly from the bottle may also help.
When used in a bath (8-10 drops), eucalyptus may support a healthy urinary system and a strong immune system. It can also help to speed recovery from slow healing burns and wounds. Insects dislike the pungent, camphor-like aroma of Eucalyptus. This is good news for the upcoming summer months.
Eucalyptus oil helps to clear minor, non-cystic acne problems or skin blemishes by reducing the oiliness of the skin. Eucalyptus is also an essential component of sauna products.
Eucalyptus is a stimulating and refreshing oil that may help restore emotional balance and promote concentration. Used in diffusers or vaporizers, it helps cleanse and refresh the air.
