Ideas for Using Essential Oils in Your Home

You will find some of the most noxious chemicals in many household products.  Did you know that the death rate from cancer is 54% higher for women who work in the home than women who work outside the home.
Do you check  the labels on your household products?  Almost every household product you commonly buy at the store have WARNING LABELS which  means that a very small amount can be toxic or fatal, even to adults and certainly children.
Now your asking 'what can I use to clean my house?'.  There are more and more naturally-oriented companies who sell non-toxic products.  Click Here for non-toxic household products.   To avoid toxicity, you can create your own household products at a very nominal price. for example:  Fill a plastic spray bottle with water and add a small squirt of dishwashing soap.  Now add 3-5 drops each of lavender, lemon and pine needle essential oils.  Shake and it's ready to spray.  It cleans and disinfects as well as any commercial cleaner and it smells delicious.
Essential oils may be used as air fresheners, after heavy smoking, or as disinfectants after an illness.  Most essential oils have good germicidal properties and are very effective when a room needs to be disinfected.  They are also effective as a precautionary measure during flu epidemics, since they support the body's immune system.
Here are few ideas  to get started with essential oils and make sure your home is safe and healthy:
1.  Laundry:
a)   For good smelling towels, sheets, clothes, etc. place a few drops of Lemon Oil to the washer will remove greasy/oily smells.
b)   Research indicates that adding Eucalyptus Globulous to the washing machine MAY kill dust mites in bedding.
c)   Place a 2-3 drops of Lavender oil onto a small piece of terry cloth and toss into the clothes dryer can scent bed linens. To really preserve the scent of essential oils used in the dryer, add them and run on a 'no heat' cycle for a few minutes at the end of the drying cycle.
d)  Add 5 drops essential oil to 1/4 cup fabric softener or water and place in the center cup of the washer.
2. Potpourri which has lost its scent can be revived by adding a few drops of essential oil.
3. Add a few drops of Lemon, Tea Tree, Cypress or Lavender to water in a spray bottle and use as an air freshener for smoke-filled rooms.
4.  Lemon Oil is a great grease cutter; Add a few drops to the dish pan.
5.  To disinfect the air in your home especially during/after an illness add eucalyptus, Lemon, Tea Tree, Rosemary and spray throughout your house; add to water when washing floors.
6.  Use Lemon or Grapefruit essential oil, possibly with a touch of Tea Tree oil added, in the water you clean with. Wipe down kitchen counters and your bathroom with these cleansing, germicidal oils.  Lemon Oil in water does a wonderful job cleaning the bathroom mirror, as well as all the fixtures.
7.  Diffuse Lemon oil to help kill bacteria such as  menningococcus, typhus, pneumococcus, staphylococcus and streptococcus.

Cautions When Using Essential Oils

1.  Essential oils are highly concentrated liquids that can be helpful if used carefully. The following are basic guidelines and it is best to consult a trained aromatherapy practitioner if you are in doubt regarding the proper use of essential oils.
2.  Read and follow label instructions and warnings.
3.  Do not ingest essential oils without consulting a qualified aromatherapy practitioner.
4. Avoid contact with eyes and mucus membranes. Flush with our Mixing Oil or olive oil in case of contact. DO NOT flush with water.
5.  Do not apply undiluted essential oils directly to the skin. There are exceptions to this precaution, such as Tea Tree Oil or Lavender Oil, but the decision to apply undiluted oils should be made by experienced aromatherapy users and practitioners.
6.  Do not use essential oils straight in bathwater. They just float on top and can irritate skin. Water forces oils deeper into the tissues. For best results, dilute the Essential Oil in unscented body gel or shampoo and then add to the bathwater. We suggest Refresh Shower Gel or Ultimate Shampoo, available in the Extra Essentials.
7.  If you have ANY medical condition or are pregnant or nursing, use oils only under the proper guidance of a qualified aromatherapy practitioner.
8.  Fennel, hyssop, rosemary, and all types of sage oils should not be used by people with high blood pressure.
9.  A skin patch test should be conducted on a small skin area to determine skin sensitivity prior to using an oil for the first time. To do this, place a small amount of the diluted essential oil (never use essential oils undiluted on the skin) on the inside of your elbow and apply a band-aid. Wait 24 hours to see if there is any form of reaction. Even if a particular essential oil is not known to cause irritation, this step should be taken.
10.  Avoid strong sunlight or sun beds after topically applying essential oils, particularly citrus oils, which can be photosensitive.
11.  It is safest to consult a qualified aromatherapy practitioner before using oils for children.
12.  If you experience redness, itching, swelling burning or irritation while using essential oils, discontinue use.
13.  Take a periodic break from using essential oils. Use oils for six days and then rest for a day, or use oils for three weeks and then rest a week.
14.  Avoid applying essential oils immediately after perspiring or using a sauna.
15.  Store essential oils away from extreme cold, heat, light, dampness and electromagnetic frequencies.
16.  Be sure your essential oils are tightly closed.
The ideal way to expose yourself to most toxins
and carcinogens over your lifetime is to use
