For July –
let’s take a closer look at detoxifying your body of excess estrogens.
We must work on detoxifying our body’s estrogen. Eating vegetables such
as broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, brussel sprouts, kale or collards
help because they are excellent detoxifiers. Of course, fresh fruit and
vegetables of all kinds are extremely important. I am a great proponent
of trying to eat 85 % raw – with only 15 % cooked food. And I promote
daily juicing if possible. Eating this way also helps keep our bodies
alkaline.
I found this
book very enlightening and I have been trying to eat more raw food.
This is especially easy in the summer months.
12 Steps to Raw
Foods by Victoria Boutenko
Chapter 3 – The
Law of Vital Adjustment – pages 20 –
“…How
does the body adjust to cooked food? The body creates mucus and uses
this mucus as a filter. All the surfaces of the digestive tract that
are designed to absorb the nutrients from the food become covered with
mucus film that protects blood from toxins. The mucus film begins at
the tongue and continues all the way through the intestines. Many
people can see this mucus on their tongue. People who have a thick
mucus coating on their intestines usually have white tongues as if they
just ate sour cream. The body creates a little mucus, to begin with, to
filter out the toxins from the cooked food. The more cooked food we
consume, the more mucus the body produces as protection. The more
harmful the food substances are to the body, the more this mucous
film builds up. As the years go by it becomes thicker and harder.
Our
body initially creates mucus when we eat our first cooked food as a
baby. The next time we eat cooked food the toxins in the food do not
penetrate the body completely because of the mucus protection. You may
ask: what is the mucus made of? The human body, brilliant as always,
creates the mucus from the cooked food itself! This mucus covers our
entire digestive tract, to prevent us from absorbing the toxins in
cooked food that would make the body sick.
We are afraid
of e-coli, salmonella or other bacteria, so we cook, pasteurize and
irradiate everything. Food is now highly processed and prepackaged. We
eat a lot of cooked food and, therefore, our body creates a lot of
mucus.
Naturopaths
call this mucus in the intestine by the name of mucoid plaque. Mucoid
plaque looks like a green, rubbery hose about twenty-five yards long.
Because of the mucoid plaque, our nutrient assimilation becomes low.
The mucoid plaque protects us from absorbing toxins, but at the same
time we cannot absorb nutrients. The more mucus we have, the fewer
nutrients we can receive. After a number of years of eating cooked
food, we develop severe nutritional deficiencies, become hungry and
malnourished….”
Excess Estrogen and the Bowel
The bowel is
the favored route of elimination of estrogens once they are filtered out
by the liver, so if a woman has a history of constipation this
elimination route is blocked. If the waste is allowed to remain in the
bowel for longer than the ideal 18 hour transit time, the friendly
bacteria in the colon actually recycles the estrogen back into the
blood. This recycled estrogen, in addition to the new amounts being
produced, causes a severe overage of estrogen that has been connected to
menopausal symptoms such as thinning hair and bones, vaginal dryness to
name a few.

Margie’s 6 Day Cleanse Routine
(Can be shorter or longer – adjust to your own needs)
|
Food items Needed:
5-6 Organic Lemons per day of
cleanse
1 Gallon distilled water per day
Pure, Organic Grade B Maple Syrup
Cayenne Pepper
2-3 tsp Epsom salts
Stevia
|
Neways Supplements
Green Qi – Nutrition, alkalizing,
energy
Feelin’ Good – Fiber
Cleansing Tea – Cleansing,
soothing
Purge – Parasite cleansing
Protectiver – Liver cleansing
D-Zyme – Digestive Enzymes
ProtoZymes – Friendly intestinal
flora
|
I like to make a whole gallon of the lemon
drink once each day. To prepare the drink, you put about 1 gallon of
distilled water in a large pot, squeeze 5 -6 organic lemons over a
strainer to remove as many seeds as possible. Add the squeezed lemons
to the pot and bring it to a boil. When it cools, squeeze the lemons
again before throwing them out- this puts a little pulp in the drink.
By about day 3 you’ll enjoy having anything at all to chew. Put this
mixture in a gallon jug. You should drink 1 full gallon each day you’re
on the cleanse. Enjoy it warm or cold.
To prepare each glass, pour in the lemon
mixture, add 1 – 2 tablespoon of the pure grade B maple syrup, and a
couple of shakes of cayenne pepper. The maple syrup helps with energy
levels. I used 2 tbsp if I were feeling a little lethargic. The
cayenne pepper is a very important part – don’t skim on it. It strips
the mucous membrane, and it is very healing to the stomach, bowel and
intestines.
If you’re making it up by the glass, rather
than by the gallon, squeeze 2 tbsp of fresh organic lemon into 8 – 12
oz. of distilled water. Add 1 – 2 tbsp of syrup and a couple of shakes
or 1/10 tsp of cayenne pepper. If preparing by the glass you don’t heat
the mixture. Be sure to drink a gallon each day.
The Cleanse
On the first day, for a initial flush, put 3
tsp of Epsom salts in warm water and drink it down. Be sure you are near
a bathroom.
Drink the lemon drink all day long every time
you feel hungry.
You can also drink the Green Qi several times
a day – mid morning & mid afternoon. Add a squeeze of lemon and/or
Stevia for variety. Green Qi is the most power-packed nutrition you can
get while abstaining from food. It energizes, alkalizes, detoxifies and
nutrifies the body. The Feelin’ Good contains flax which pulls toxins
from the intestinal tract, and psyllium which creates bulk for ongoing
elimination, even though you’re not consuming food. Neways Cleansing
Tea stimulates and aids the colon in cleansing itself by working
synergistically to tone and strengthen the smooth muscles of the
intestines.

I finished the
6th day with a colonic.
|
Start back into
food carefully with clear liquids such as broths or miso.
Maybe some fresh squeezed juices or blended fruit smoothies
(from whole fruit only – no added sugars). Be sure to use
the ProtoZymes at the completion of the cleanse to replace
and balance intestinal flora. Continue using Purge for a
total of 25 days, stop taking it for 5 days, and then take
it for another 25 days to complete the parasite cleanse.
Resume normal
supplementation with what you are taking regularly. Take D-Zyme
for at least 3 weeks too while the body is re-acclimating to
the food. I take D-Zyme with every major meal to get the
optional nutrition from my food and ease the digestion
process for my body. For my first meal, I boiled several
different organic vegetables in pure water and then pureed
them – it was delicious.
You can also
cleanse WITH food – but if so, just eat as much raw food as
possible. A lot of fruits and vegetables, and as much green
as possible.
In preparation
for the cleanse, try to cut down on or eliminate caffeine,
fried food, sugar, soda and eat meat very sparingly. This
will make the cleanse easier, because you won’t have the
cravings and headaches many people experience when coming
off these foods. That would apply post-cleanse as well.
Day 1 and 2 are
typically the most difficult to get through in terms of
experiencing hunger and wanting to ear. Usually by day 3,
people feel great, have tons of energy, and no fatigue.
Hearing and vision seem enhanced by day 4 or 5. The skin
takes on a radiant quality – darkness under the eyes
diminishes or disappears, because the liver is cleansing.
Many people experience moderate to even significant weight
loss. By day 6 you may find you’re reluctant to go back to
eating food because you feel so good – and never want for
energy.
As you start
back into food, honor the body. Realize how small our
stomachs are and stop eating when you are full.
Optional:
Essential Oils

Are
you ready for mosquito season?
Spring 2003Many
people's response to fears about West Nile Virus (WNV) and the normal
annoyance of mosquito bites is to
slather on the insect repellent, especially on their children. The most
common choice is a DEET based repellent. A study released last summer
showed some DEET based products to be the most effective, in that they
lasted longer than other products. But DEET based repellents aren't just
hazardous to mosquitoes. From a human health point of view, when
mosquito bites are more of a nuisance than a serious health threat,
choosing a botanical based repellent makes more sense.
DEET is a registered pesticide. DEET is short
for N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide (also known as
N,N-diethyl-3-methylbenzamide). It is a member of the toluene chemical
family. Toluene is an organic solvent used in rubber and plastic cements
and paint removers. DEET is absorbed through the skin and passes into
the blood. The Medical Sciences Bulletin, published by Pharmaceutical
Information Associates Ltd. reports, "Up to 56% of DEET applied
topically penetrates intact human skin and 17% is absorbed into the
bloodstream." Blood concentrations of about 3 mg per litre have been
reported several hours after DEET repellent was applied to skin in the
prescribed fashion. DEET is also
absorbed by the gut.
The most serious concerns about DEET are its
effects on the central nervous
system. Dr. Mohammed Abou-Donia of Duke
University studied lab animals'
performance of neuro-behavioural tasks
requiring muscle co-ordination. He found that lab animals exposed to the
equivalent of average human doses of DEET performed far worse than
untreated animals. Abou-Donia also found that combined exposure to DEET
and permethrin, a mosquito spray ingredient, can lead to motor deficits
and learning and memory dysfunction.
An emergency medicine bulletin notes that DEET
may have significantly greater toxicity when combined with ethyl and
isopropyl alcohols and freon which are components of some DEET
repellents. In 1998, the US EPA made it illegal for any product
containing DEET to make any child safety claims. Products with DEET are
required to carry instructions that they should not be used at all for
children under 6
months. Additional required warnings state
that for children 6 months to 2 years, only concentrations of less than
10% DEET should be used, and only once a day. For children from 2 -12
years old, only concentrations under 10% should be used, and repellents
should not be applied more than 3 times a day.
For adults, Health Canada has now banned
products with DEET concentrations
over 30%, citing health risks and
evidence that increasing the percentage does not do much more to repel
insects. Health Canada has also banned two in one products which combine
sunscreen and DEET, saying they create the potential for people to be
exposed to too much DEET. The ban does not take effect until December
2004, so consumers may want to be careful not to pick up combination
products still on store shelves.
Products containing DEET are now required to
carry labels which specify:
-Do not apply over cuts, wounds, or irritated
skin.
-Do not apply to hands or near eyes and mouth of young children.
-Do not allow young children to apply this product.
-After returning indoors, wash treated skin with soap and water.
-Do not use under clothing.
-Do not spray in enclosed areas.
Experts recommend that if using DEET, its best
to wear long sleeves and long pants, when possible, and apply repellent
to clothing rather than skin to reduce exposure. They state DEET based
products should only be applied sparingly; saturation does not increase
efficiency. DEET repellents should not be inhaled. Repellent-treated
clothes should be washed, or kept outside living areas to reduce
exposure. Following all these precautions reduces risk, but does not
eliminate it.
Back yard mosquito control tips: Mosquito coil
smoke contains about 70 different volatile organic compounds including
allethrin, phenol, benzene, toluene and xylene, all quite toxic
especially when burned and inhaled. Using yellow outdoor light bulbs
which do not attract insects can help reduce mosquito populations at
night. Another option is to use a fan when there is little wind since
mosquitoes are not strong flyers. Planting mosquito repelling plants
like lemon balm, catnip, basil and lemon geraniums around outdoor
sitting areas and encouraging mosquito predators like bats and
dragonflies can help reduce mosquito populations.
I have some GOOD NEWS!
Our family along with many of my customers has found a safe and very
pleasant, yet effective way to take care of our mosquito problem – using
Neways Essential Oils.
Shoo-Fly Insect Repellent
(Increase amounts proportionately for larger
supply)
¼ cup of distilled water
Mix oils in conditioner, then add to the water
and shake well. May then be used in a sprayer and thus applied to hair,
skin, and clothing. As this utilizes Neways Essential Oils and Neways
products, it is safe for infants over one month of age. Naturally, do
not get into eyes nor ingest.

Geranium Bug Spray

(Increase amounts proportionately for larger
supply)
¼ cup of distilled water
Mix Geranium drops in conditioner then add to
the water and shake well. May then be used in a sprayer and thus
applied to hair, skin, and clothing. As this utilizes Neways Essential
Oils and Neways products, it is safe for infants over one month of age.
Naturally, do not get into eyes nor ingest.
Both of these recipes are extremely
effective. I tend to use the Shoo-fly recipe more myself. I love the
smell of the combined essential oils. It is so good to know that I have
a healthy alternative spray for my family, including my grandchildren.
