July’s
newsletter we stressed detoxifying the body of excess estrogens. We
provided body cleansing recipes and ideas for eating as much raw fruit
and vegetables as possible. So for August – let’s take a look at the
second part of # 2 – keeping our bodies alkaline.

Acidity
Wreaks Havoc on your health
What are Acid and Alkaline?
The pH or
"potential of Hydrogen" is a logarithmic scale that measures the
relative acidity or alkalinity of a solution. Solutions are measured
from 0 (totally acid) to 14 (totally alkaline) with 7 being neutral. The
optimum pH in a healthy body is slightly alkaline and should fall within
an approximate range of 7.15 to 7.45. The human body is constantly
struggling to maintain a healthy alkaline pH level by depositing and
withdrawing acid and alkaline minerals from other locations including
the bones, soft tissues, body fluids and saliva. Eating a diet high in
raw foods such as fruits and vegetables can optimize and alkalize your
health.
A diet that is
too acidic is an indicator of poor health. Science has discovered that
the diet of a healthy person is usually alkaline, high pH. The diet of
an unhealthy person is more likely to be acidic, a low pH. A pH test
indicates how alkaline or acidic you are. Scientists have linked many
degenerative diseases to a deficiency of alkaline food in the diet. God
designed these disease-fighting foods to help keep us healthy. Try
balancing your pH levels with a diet of 50 – 75 % alkaline foods
everyday.

The pH level
(the acid-alkaline measurement) of our internal fluids affects every
cell in our bodies. Extended acid imbalances of any kind are not well
tolerated by the body. Indeed, the entire metabolic process depends on a
balanced internal alkaline environment. A chronically over-acidic pH
corrodes body tissue, slowly eating into the 60,000 miles of veins and
arteries like acid eating into marble. If left unchecked, it will
interrupt all cellular activities and functions, from the beating of
your heart to the neural firing of your brain. In summary,
over-acidification interferes with life itself leading to all sickness
and disease.
Fat is an Acid Problem! Fat is actually an over-acidification problem.
What does that mean? The body creates fat cells to carry acids away from
your vital organs, so these acids literally don't choke your organs to
death. Fat is saving your life! Fat is actually a response from the body
to an alarming over-acidic condition.
Healthy bodies are not overweight or underweight. A healthy body
naturally maintains its own ideal weight. You can begin to restore
health, balance, and harmony to your body by switching your pH
measurement from acidic to alkaline. As alkalizing and oxygenation
begins to take place, the body naturally begins to seek its own ideal
weight.
Allergies… The toxins produced within an overly-acidic, oxygen-deprived
body may contribute significantly to what are often called the symptoms
of allergy. In addition, the absorption of undigested proteins is a
major cause of allergy conditions. The digestive system is weakened,
which prevents the total breakdown of amino acids - often causing food
allergies. This alone may produce a wide spectrum of severe allergic
reactions.
Fatigue… Fatigue is probably the major symptom or complaint of an overly
acidic body. The toxins produced in an acidic body environment reduce
the absorption of protein and minerals, which in turn weakens the body's
ability to produce enzymes and hormones. This also interferes with the
reconstruction of cells and other necessary components of energy
production. The result is fatigue, poor endurance, an inability to add
muscle tone, and general weakness.
If you've got a health problem and/or low energy, 99.9999% chance you're
acidic. In addition, over-acidity will decrease the body's ability to
absorb minerals and other nutrients, decrease energy production in the
cells, decrease ability to repair damaged cells, decrease its ability to
detoxify heavy metals, make tumor cells thrive and make you more
susceptible to fatigue and illness.
A long-term acid-producing diet creates an acidic environment at the
cellular level. If cells cannot function properly, you cease to
function. On the other hand, a healthy alkaline diet creates an
environment that is conducive to cellular level health, which results in
total health.
All forms of arthritis may be associated with excess acidity in the
diet. Your body attempts to balance its pH by pulling calcium from both
teeth and bones. Potassium and magnesium are also leached from the body
to reduce acidity. This stresses the body and contributes to the aging
process.
In addition to heart disease, cancer, strokes, Alzheimer’s, diabetes,
osteoporosis -

What causes
over-acidity?
Over-acidity is very common today in our society mostly due to the
typical American diet, which is far too high in acid-producing products
like meat, eggs, and dairy, and far too low in alkaline producing foods
like vegetables, whole grains, oils, sprouts, and water. In addition, we
eat acid-producing processed foods like white flour and refined sugar
and drink acid-producing drinks like soda, coffee, and processed juices.

Veggie
Submarine Sandwich
-
makes 1-2 servings
-
2 large romaine lettuce leaves
-
1 cup alfalfa or clover sprouts
-
1/2 ripe avocado, sliced
-
1/2 roma tomatoes, sliced
-
6 thin onion slices
-
1 tablespoon Lemon Herb Dressing
Arrange the sprouts, avocado, cucumber, tomato, and onion on one romaine
leaf. Drizzle with the dressing, Cover with the 2nd romaine leaf or eat
as open-faced sandwich. Serve.
Lemon Herb Dressing
-
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
-
1 tablespoon minced fresh herbs (such as parsley, basil, dill, mint,
tarragon or oregano)
-
1/2 teaspoon crushed garlic (about 1 clove, to taste)
-
1/2 teaspoon salt
-
1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)
-
Dash black pepper (optional)
-
1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
Whisk lemon juice, herbs, garlic, salt, mustard, and pepper in small
bowl to combine. Add olive oil and whisk again till well blended. Store
in fridge and it will keep for 5 days.
BANANA MANGO ORANGE SMOOTHIE
-
3 oranges (juiced)
-
1 banana
-
1 mango
-
Handful of ice cubes
-
Agave nectar or raw honey to taste
Blend and serve!
Serves 3-4

Exercise your
complexion…
With a
relaxing, restorative facial massage. Facial massage increases
circulation to the skin, and improves its ability to absorb moisturizers
and nutrients. It also enhances the skin’s ability to release toxins and
heal itself.
It’s important
to do the massage routine at least four times per week. In the evening,
just before bed, cleanse your face and neck. Then pour approximately two
